Nokix Tutorial

About writer: this program written by Yak, who let everybody to use his software for free. So this software is freeware, and you can develope new things for it. Nokix is the first useful program which let you to modificate your nokia dct-3 phone's software. Not only change some function but you can add new functions to it. The only thing what you can't do with it yet is changing bitmaps. We suggest to use PPMedit to change bitmaps what you can find in this site.

2. How to use it.

This program based on scripts. There are a lot of scripts that made by Yak and others but you can also write new scripts. You can download the program and the script package in one file in download section

After you open the program you will see an empty page. This is your new project. First of all you have to decide what do you want to do with NokiX. if you want to modificate your software you are in right mode.

But nokix let you to not only modificate flashes but you can analyse them. This mode is the "dumper". so if you want to use dumper simply click into dumper "button".

3. Modification mode.

In this mode you can modificate your dc-3 flash files. But how to start it? First you have to open your flash file with th button end of input flash. After thet you have to decide the output flash also. the second button. When you made it what you only have to do is to decide which scripts do you want to use in you project.

You can browse them and you can add many scripts. (please read the section of scripts before you try to add the all scripts) Macros: if you don't change anything in scripts folder you don't need to change this. After you add the sripts the only thing what you need to do to start the project. After you press this button your new flash will be the output flash. After that you just have to upload the new flash to your nokia phone.

4. Dumper mode.

In this mode you can analyse your flash file. This mode is also based on scripts but for this mode you can't use the scripts what you use in modification mode. The dumper scripts are different from modding scripts. These scripts just collecting infos about flash file and do not modificate the flash. The dumper mode is very important for some modding scripts like write_main_menu, because may be you will need the result of dumper scripts to use the modding script properly. In the dumper mode you can choose which flash file do you want to analyse the original or the new one. There are some dumper script which allow you to use parameter. (i.e. dump_menu)

5. Processing menu in NokiX.

There is two mode: Start: This will run the scripts and modificate your flash.
Simulate: It will just show what will happen if you start the project but it will not modifitate your flash. In this menu you can change the workin level of NokiX. Normal: this mean that Nokix will show only that information which is really important for everybody (of course if only the script writer wants to inform you) (fastest) Verbose level1: This mode wil show you more information about what does the each script do or need. Verbose level2: This mode similar to level1 but in the end of the project it will show morr information about the environment. Verbose level3: This mode will show you the all things what the program actually do. (slowest)
